Blog 6- Embracing Your Hair

Hey guys,

Welcome back! Today’s final post will be about embracing your body hair. Focusing on those who are and how it makes them feel. And hopefully takes you, the reader, one step closer to doing the same.

For starters, it wasn’t easy getting to where we are now. A place where women, are confident enough to take photos of their true natural, hairy, but beautiful selves. We’ve had to deal with a lot of ridiculous things, like name calling, body shaming, haters, Brazilian waxes. But that’s what I have here. Three stories about women who talk about embracing their body hair. Them saying enough is enough! It took a lot a guts, but look how strong they are!

1. Mariah

Mariah is beautiful. She stop shaving out of laziness, but later realized she found herself “sexier and more confident with armpit hair.” Also, she realized that she has better things, more productive things to do than spend time shaving. Mariah adds, “I would so much rather spend another hour in bed, or doing something else I enjoy, than shaving.” You go girl!

2. Ashley ♥

Ashley’s story goes a little differently. When she was 13, she went to a pool party, hosted by the most popular girl in school. The girls saw her preteen pubs and immediately said her crush would be disgusted and would’t like it. Because of this, she was super confused. She went to her mom and her mom told her those girls were just being mean. And that she’s beautiful, no guy can tell her otherwise. So now, anytime she meets a guys and they ask her why she doesn’t shave, she said it’s a personal choice. And if they don’t like it, they can leave, no hard feelings. Ashley says, “You just have to do what makes you comfortable.”

3. Sara ♥

Sara stopped shaving because her decision was based off embracing body positivity. She recalls going through puberty. It was the most awkward part of her existence, as is for most people. But she later realized that “My body hair is part of who I am, and it makes me feel strong and beautiful and powerful.”

She believes, she can have both hairy armpits and legs and still be a woman. Also, she’s no different from the best version of herself when she’s hairy. No negative reactions can bring her down, when she’s this high up.

Unfortunately, this will be the last time you hear from me and my hairy-self (unless I want to continue this… I’ll think about it). But I’ve had a lot of fun writing and researching about Feminism, Beyonce, and most importantly, body hair. I hope I’ve got to inspire some women out there. I know it’s tough being a women and everyone is looking at you, but I hope you know, you don’t have to please them. They don’t own you!

I know my classmates have been really supportive and I want to thank them for that. I also want to thank the followers I’ve gained on Instagram. They’ve shown me nothing but love and through that I’ve gain so much confidence. I never would have thought, I’d be taking selfies with my arms up, hair out. It’s a new look for me, but I think I’m owning it.  Everything about this experience has been so much fun. You should try it sometime. 😉

  1. Your post has a really positive message especially for young girls who are experiencing puberty for the first time and their bodies are changing. Having confident women of all backgrounds and perspective is great for them to have as role models.

  2. I loved this last post. It was neat to read about the different woman’s stories since everyone is so different on how they decided to be natural. Everyone is different and that’s what makes all the stories so interesting on reading. The pictures that you included were also interesting and helped that they were included. I really enjoyed your blog throughout the semester!!

  3. I enjoyed reading your posts this semester as I support people being entirely comfortable with themselves despite the standard views of the pubic today. I hope you continue being you as you had during this semester.

  4. Fantastic post!
Your messages are positive and supportive without being vindictive and unpleasantly sarcastic towards the stereotype and current social norm for body hair.
Good luck with embracing yourself and I hope you continue to be successful in what you’re doing!

  5. Your posts have been very inspirational. Going through puberty was a really difficult time for me since my genetics caused me to turn into Cousin It from the Adams family. For the longest time, I struggled to try to get rid it of it until I eventually grew tired of the pain from waxing and threading. I no longer feel like I am a freak and I just really want to thank you for sharing others’ experiences.

  6. Claudia! Such a cool blog post. I love how you added real life stories of real women on your post. It was really interesting to see different experiences with body hair and what made these women want to embrace it au natural! You make a persuasive point… maybe I’ll be comfortable with this sooner rather than later 🙂
